Carlo Robelli UAS620 Reviews  5 / 5 based on 2 reviewsI picked up this guitar at Sam Ash in Columbus ,Ohio for $250. Semi-hollow bodies are my preference, and the Transparent Black on Flamed Maple really caught my eye. I had never played a Carlo Robelli before, and knew this was going to me mine the minute I picked it up!
The Finish is very nice, and the back is different than the front, much tighter grain and deeper black color. The pick-ups,hardware, and tuners are black. I like the binding in the F-holes too. I also like the binding on the neck,as well as the binding trim on just the top side.
This is slightly smaller than a Gibson 335 AND I think the F-HOLES are bigger. Because of this, it has a great sound that is a little different than normal. This guitar screams with the right effects on it. I recorded a lead that sounded so much like a McCartney Wings lead on a Les Paul I was almost in a state of shock! The power cords sounded really great too. It also sounds excellent for blues and smooth jazz type stuff. The neck is very easy to play, and just right, for my hands.
Really the only things I didnt like where The Tuners could probably be better, and the matching pick guard. Solid black may have looked better,but thats just my opinion. Mine had a very slight defect on the 18th fret,probably something that could be touched up with something like old english perhaps.
The construction seems much higher quality than what I would expect in this price range. It has a set neck, and seems to be well crafted. The finish is great, so the first scratch or nick is really going to ruin my day when it does happen.
All in all, Im very glad I found this guitar, it looks great in my collection,and it is a definite keeper. I call it my Gothic Semi-hollow body!! This axe is worth every penny in my opinion, and a great value for the money. I would have probably bought it for even a hundred dollars more than I PAID FOR IT. I ordered this guitar from samash.com for $199.95 I chose it after researching as many under $400 semi-hollowbody guitars as i was able to find. The reason i chose this particular one is that it really seemed to be the best deal out there and because it has a slightly smaller body that most ES335 style guitars. Besides that the transparent black finish over flame maple is beautiful!!
This is a beautiful guitar!! It features a bound body and neck a transparent black finish and black hardware. It is a semi-hollow double cutaway like a Gibson ES 335, but the body is a bout an inch smaller all around. This makes it very comfortable to play while still retaining that semi-hollow tone. This guitar is very classy looking and it's worth the price of admission just for the reaction i get from other players who see it. Everyone guesses i paid at least 3 or 4 times the price for it. It was not set up when i received it but once i got it set up it is one of the best playing guitars I've ever laid hands on, and I've owned and played lots of guitars over the years.
My only real complaint is that it could use better pickups, but that is to be expected at the price.
The only problem with the pickups is that they tend to want to squeal at high gain settings. But this is a guitar more suited to blues, classic rock and jazz which is what i play. so it's not too much of a problem. If you are into death metal, you probably wouldn't choose this guitar anyway
Excellent quality for the price. I did find one small finish flaw in it: there is an air bubble in the clear coat on the headstock. As i said befor the guitar was not set up when it arrived, but i now have the action set to Gibson factory specs with no buzzes anywhere. Pretty good for a $200 dollar guitar
A totally sweet guitar!! This is the first guitar I've owned that is an absolute keeper, every other guitar I've had has cost more thatn this one and has always had some quirk that bothered me. This is the first guitar I've owned that didn't and I've been playing for 15 years and have owned Fenders, Gretsch, Ibanez Epiphone etc. The pickups aren't the best in the world, but they are quite usable. Bluesomatic rated this unit on 2001-12-19.
